Nail Trims are often detested by cats and owners alike. Owners are often uncomfortable with the process for fear of hurting their cats. Most cats have clear nails so you can see through enough to identify the quick. To start, clip only the tip of the nail. Once you are comfortable with this, you can continue and take bit more off, ensuring you do not get to close to the quick.

It is important to realize all cats have a quick. The quick is a blood supply which contains nerve endings which are painful if clipped. If this should happen apply some styptic powder to stop the bleeding. Cornstarch is also a good alternative.

Brushing your cat will also help establish a bond between you both and improve his sense of well being. Brushing will also distribute the natural oils throughout the coat and keeps your cat free from tangles.

Before you give your cat a bath you will want to comb or brush through their coat ensuring all tangles and mats are removed.

Cats need to be bathed periodically. Bathing as often as once a week is not considered harmful. Always use a shampoo that is intended for cats because the ph of cats is different than humans. Lather the cat then rinse thoroughly. Make sure you donʼt leave any traces of shampoo on your cat. Dry your cat thoroughly with a hair dryer or towel to ensure no wet areas are left that can cause infection or sores.

Dental care. It is very important to establish a dental hygiene routine for your cat to avoid dental problems and other health issues that can develop for lack of dental hygiene. Only use special enzymatic toothpaste developed for use on pets as human toothpaste can make them very sick.

How to wash the cat

Thoroughly clean the toilet.

Lift the lid and add shampoo.

Find and soothe the cat as you carry it to the bathroom.

In one swift movement, place the cat in the toilet, close the lid and stand on top so cat cannot escape.

The cat will self agitate and produce ample suds.

Flush toilet three or four times. This provides a power rinse, which is quite effective.

Stand as far from the toilet as possible and quickly lift the lid.

Clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and outdoors, where it will air dry.
